Four teenagers lost in difficult conditions on Lugnaquillia, Co. Wicklow [ 29-JUN-10 ]
Today, Monday 28th June four young teenagers from Northern Ireland called for the assistance of the Mountain Rescue service in Wicklow. While participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme they became disoriented near the summit of Lugnaquillia. The group, all girls, were on their third day of a four day camping trip in the mountains when the weather broke. Heavy rain and awful visibility meant that navigation became extremely challenging.
Life-saving sign mysteriously vanishes off mountain [ 26-JUN-10 ]

A WARNING sign that could save lives has mysteriously disappeared from a mountain in Co Kerry, popular with hill walkers and climbers. The sign, which urged people to stay away from a false descent route, had been placed about 50 metres off the summit of Carrantuohill five years ago by the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT).
Hill walker airlifted from Wicklow Mountains [ 26-JUN-10 ]
Today (26-JUN-10) at 13:50, on the way to Lugnaquillia (Leinster’s highest peak), a hill walker suffered a lower leg injury on Corrigasleggaun (780m). His group attempted to evacuate him themselves but found that they were unable and called in Mountain Rescue. Both the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams attended the incident.
The injured person was airlifted at 15:10 by the Irish Coastguard Helicopter to Baldonnell and transferred to Tallaght hospital for treatment.
Rescue above Lough Muskry
At around 2pm today Gardai in Tipperary town alerted the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) to an incident in the Galtee mountains in Co Tipperary. Two hill walkers were climbing a gully behind Lough Muskry when one of them fell 10 meters and sustained a lower leg injury, his partner rang 999 and raised the alarm. A full team call out was issued to all members of the team and a mountain rescue 4x4 that was in the area at the time was very quickly on scene with rescue equipment and first aid.
