"Glen Team" to turn sod on new Mt Rescue Base Fri 9th April 2010
The Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team is delighted to announce that we will be holding a "Sod-turning" event for our long-awaited Rescue Base.
The site for the Base is located beside the headquarters to the Wicklow Mountains National Park at the entrance to Trooperstown Wood. A presentation and reception will take place in the conference room in the National Park HQ, beginning at 11.30am on Friday 9 April, 2010.
72 year-old man airlifted from near the summit of Lugnaquillia
At approximately 3pm today, Saturday 27th February, a 72 year old lone hillwalker suffered chest pains. The gentleman, near the summit of Lugnaquillia (924m), used his mobile phone to call the emergency services
The Glen of Imaal and Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams arrived quickly on the scene and sent personnel from both Glenmalure and Glen of Imaal to attend the lone hillwalker. Despite the wintry conditions, the Irish Coastguard helicopter successfully airlifted the man to Tallaght hospital.

Flashlight used successfully to get the attention of Mountain Rescue personnel
A young man who was injured and in need of assistance successfully attracted the attention of mountain rescue personnel by using his torch to flash a signal for help. The Mountain Rescue members who happened to be out on a night hike in the Glendalough valley, recognised the distress signal and raised the alarm. |
Wicklow's Mountain Rescue Teams called to assist stranded motorists yet again
Volunteers from the Glen of Imaal and Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Teams spent another busy weekend assisting stranded motorists around the Sally Gap area. Motorists continue to ignore the advice of the Gardai and AA roadwatch by venturing to the Sally Gap.
Two Youths Reported Missing - Powerscourt Estate, Wicklow
The Dublin & Wicklow MRT and Glen of Imaal MRT were called to action to search for two missing youths who were believed to have become lost in the extensive surrounds of Djouce Mountain and the Powerscourt Estate, close to Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow.
The two had become separated from their group during a mountainbiking trip, and with dusk fast approaching, the groups leaders took action and made the call for Mountain Rescue to come to their assistance.
