This weekend the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team hosts the annual Mountain Rescue Ireland Conference in Glendalough, Wicklow. 87 delegates from twelve Mountain Rescue teams will join the team to discuss all aspects of the future development of Mountain Rescue in Ireland. The event will cover a wide range of topics including the use of software such as smartphone apps to aid the location of casualties in the mountains, the  benefits of Tetra radio units and increased cooperation with the Garda Air Support Unit.

It seems like there really is an ‘App’ for everything…

Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue last night found a long-distance runner lost in the mountains… by texting him a link for software that tracked him down using his smartphone.

At approximately 13.30 this afternoon, Sunday 8th January 2012 , Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team received their second call of the New Year.

Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team is delighted to announce that they have secured funding for two new 4x4 rescue vehicles for use in the Dublin and Wicklow hills.

A significant part of the funding comes in the shape of a €45,000 grant from the National Lottery which was approved by Department of Health Minister James O’Reilly. Andrew Doyle, Fine Gael TD in Wicklow, a long term supporter of the work of mountain rescue in Wicklow, had this to say about the good news: “This shows a genuine commitment and appreciation on the Governments part to acknowledge the vital work that is being carried out on a daily basis by those who volunteer on Mountain Rescue teams to assist those in need.”

Team was called by the local PSNI to assist with a search for a vulnerable missing person. Casualty turned up in a place of safety before the team deployed.

The second callout was at the Trassey track. Casualty slipped and fell while on Bernagh and has a suspected dislocated shoulder.

Callout 63: At approx, 3pm on Tuesday 27th December the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team rescued a female in her early 20's who had suffered a lower left leg injury.

In a week that has seen the dramatic arrival of winter weather across the country, Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team is delighted to announce that they have secured funding for two new 4x4 rescue vehicles for use in the Dublin and Wicklow hills.

Large numbers of people took advantage of the fine weather over the weekend to spend time enjoying the hills in Dublin and Wicklow. Unfortunately a number of people required the assistance of mountain rescue teams after experiencing difficulties in three separate incidents.
