Mountain Rescue Ireland Endorses Satmap Active 10
Award winning GPS unit and Ordnance Survery mapping is now available across Ireland
Surrey, U.K. - 15 June 2010...Satmap Systems Ltd. has announced Mountain Rescue Ireland has endorsed the Active 10 for use by its members. The organisation has been rigorously testing the Active 10 and chose it over other GPS because of its rugged specification, reliability, and ease-of-use.
Seamus Bradley, Chair of Mountain Rescue Ireland, commented: "We've been using the Satmap Active 10 for a year now and it has impressed our members greatly. We see this technology as something that will make a real contribution to the life saving work our teams do every day. Having Ordnance Survey mapping linked to GPS in one robust unit means we can focus on the task of locating, accessing, stabilising and transporting a casualty to safety in the shortest time possible."
"The Active 10 also tracks our routes allowing for greater accuracy of reporting and recording search areas. It has proved itself particularly useful in areas where an area is split across multiple paper maps. The unit has also excelled in dark, wet and windy conditions when paper maps become difficult to use. The Satmap Active 10 really shows how technology can evolve to provide solutions which enhance our ability to save lives."
Mountain Rescue Ireland was founded in 1965 and represents 12 voluntary mountain rescue teams who offer 24 hour 999/112 emergency service. The 365 men and women volunteers are trained to support the police and other services at a range of incidences such as air crash support; missing person searches; mountain search and rescue; and severe weather support.
Satmap Active 10 Launch into Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
The Satmap Active 10 was launched into the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in December 2009. Purpose built for the great outdoors, the multi-award winning Active 10 is designed for navigation through the toughest (or easiest!) of terrain, whether hiking, mountain biking or participating in other adventure sports. Satmap will donate a percentage of its sales in the Republic of Ireland to Mountain Rescue Ireland.
Richard Calthrop-Owen, Managing Director of Satmap Systems Ltd. commented: "Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are both rich in rugged and beautiful wild areas which makes the Active 10 the ideal navigational companion for amateur and experienced outdoor enthusiasts. We are really proud to get an endorsement from Mountain Rescue Ireland as these folk really stress tested our unit. In addition, the Active 10 is also endorsed by SARDA England and Wales and the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service. The thought that Satmap might make a small contribution to help save lives or, at the very least, get help to casualties faster, is very satisfying."

The rugged, weatherproof, user-friendly unit incorporates some of the most advanced navigation technology available.
